Upgrade info (March 2023)

As we previously announced, we will be upgrading LearnIT in April. In this newsletter you can read more about the why, how, and what to expect with this update. 

 

Why are we upgrading? 

LearnIT runs on a Moodle installation, an open-source learning management system. The current version of Moodle (3.9) will no longer be supported which means that we need to update our LearnIT installation for security reasons. We are updating from the previous LTS (Long Term Support) version to the latest LTS version 4.1. This is done to make sure we have a stable system for a few years and to limit the number of bigger changes to the platform.  

 

How are we upgrading? 

The upgrade will take place on 17 April 2023 supported by the IT Department, Learning Support, and SAP. The team has thoroughly tested the new installation to ensure that everything runs smoothly, but there may be some minor disruptions during the transition. If you experience any issues accessing LearnIT after the upgrade, please contact it@itu.dk. 

Teachers, teaching assistants and students involved in the LearnIT user panel have also been involved in the process and provided feedback on the new improvements. 

 

What to expect with the update? 

After the upgrade, you may notice some changes to the way LearnIT looks and feels. However, we are confident that these changes will improve your overall experience and make the platform more user-friendly. The new version comes with many new features, such as enhanced analytics, improved question bank additions, and a new theme that is more responsive to different devices. 

This is a major update, which means a lot of under the hood improvements have been implemented in order to make LearnIT feel more modern and lay the foundation for further improvements going forward.  

 

Sneak peek of the upgrade

We would also like to remind you that you can access a sneak peek of the new installation before the official launch by following the link learnit-sneakpeek.itu.dk and logging in with your usual ITU credentials. This gives you an opportunity to get familiar with the changes in navigation and the new look of the courses.

Please note that the sneak peek contains a recent backup of the database from the current LearnIT installation, and any changes made to the sneak peek version will not affect your data in learnit.itu.dk. 

You will also have the option to provide feedback on the new features and improvements within the sneak peek. Look for the feedback button!
